Why this guide exists

Amsterdam is still full of shops with an owner behind the counter.

Most city guides read like they were written from a press release. This one only counts a shop once we’ve walked in, talked to whoever owns the place, and decided for ourselves whether it belongs. Until then it just carries the address and what the shop sells, nothing more. We publish neighbourhood by neighbourhood, starting with the Jordaan.
